TRAFFIC ADVISORY UPDATE - Snow Accumulations of 7 to 10 Inches Anticipated - Sunday, February 22nd

Residents Asked to Be Mindful of No Parking on Snow-Covered Roadways Signs

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., reports that snow is predicted, with accumulations of 7” to 10” expected on Sunday, February 22nd, 2026.

All residents are asked to be mindful of the city’s “No Parking on Snow Covered Roads” regulations due to the expected snowfall. Signs have been posted on streets throughout the City of Newark to notify motorists of the streets designated for No Parking on Snow-Covered Roads.

Motorist are urged to look for the sign pictured below to identify the streets designated for no parking. Police will tow vehicles during the snow Emergency under a city ordinance 23:6–2.

Whenever snow has fallen, and the accumulation is such that it covers the street or highway, no vehicle shall be parked on major roadways or portions thereof.

There will be no vehicle relocations. Vehicle owners will be responsible for towing costs. Residence may park at Newark Public School parking lots. Visit www.newarknj.gov for available lot locations.

Double parking is also prohibited during snow emergencies to enable snow plows to clear the roadways.

⚠️ A significant winter storm (Nor'easter) is predicted for the Newark area starting Sunday morning, February 22, with heavy snow and high winds lasting into Monday. Total accumulation is expected to be high, with some forecasts suggesting 10–14 inches.

I urge all residents to begin preparing now. Please limit travel to essential trips only during the storm, and use caution if you must be on the roads. High winds may reduce visibility and create hazardous driving conditions.

City crews will be deployed and working around the clock to salt and plow major roads first, followed by residential streets. Please be patient and allow them the space to work safely.

🚘 Move Vehicles: Park off the streets where possible to allow for plowing. Residents may park in the following school parking lots in the North Ward:
👉🏼Elliott St. School – 721 Summer Ave.
👉🏼Park Elementary – 120 Manchester Pl.
👉🏼Rafael Hernandez – 345 Broadway
👉🏼Barringer HS – 90 Parker St.
👉🏼Technology HS – 223 Broadway

🧹 Clear Sidewalks: Salt and shovel the walkways in front of your property.
🚫 Snow Piling: Do not shovel snow into the street. Please pile snow around your property instead.
🗑️ Garbage Pickup & Recycling: Cancelled Sunday night and Monday morning.
📞 Wellness Check: Visit or call neighbors — especially seniors — to ensure they are prepared.
🚗 Limit Travel: Avoid all unnecessary driving during the storm.

❄️ Code Blue Period: 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22 – 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25.
