Fresh Youth Initiatives
Last month, we asked young people about how they take care of themselves and where they feel most like themselves.
Their answers were different, but a common thread emerged: belonging grows in spaces where people feel connected, supported, and free to be themselves.
We were honored that some young people named FYI among those spaces.
This month, we're reflecting on the importance of spaces where people feel seen, valued, and welcomed.

El mes pasado, les preguntamos a los jóvenes cómo cuidan de sà mismos y en qué lugares se sienten más auténticos.
Sus respuestas fueron diferentes, pero surgió un tema en común: el sentido de pertenencia crece en espacios donde las personas se sienten conectadas, apoyadas y libres de ser ellas mismas.
Nos sentimos honrados de que algunos jóvenes mencionaran a FYI como uno de esos espacios.
Este mes, reflexionamos sobre la importancia de crear espacios donde las personas se sientan vistas, valoradas y bienvenidas.

FYI’s Spring Wellness Event kicked off Mental Health Awareness Month the Uptown way 💚🌷
From homemade morir soñando made with love by staff, to young people volunteering and showing up for their community, kids (and adults!) getting their faces painted, families taking portraits together, free wellness resources, food pantry support, and so many beautiful moments in between - this day was a true reminder that healing happens in community.
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible partners and friends: NMIC, Uptown Youth Collective, Girl Scouts NYC, Project in Motion, Bronx Special Kids, Donut Bites. We are also grateful for our ongoing local massage therapy support and Viva Uptown, for organizing their first Mental Health Awareness 5K in support of To Write Love on Her Arms, which culminated right here in our space! Thank you as well to Manny De Los Santos for stopping by and showing us all love!
Here’s to a month of healing, honest conversation, and radical self-care. Let’s look out for one another - because mental health is community health.
