Reversing the Reading Decline: Literacy Partners CEO on NBC News | Modern Parenting with Kate Snow 06/19/2026

Our CEO Asaf Bar-Tura recently sat down with Kate Snow on NBC News' Modern Parenting segment to talk about the decline in reading β€” and what we can do to turn it around.

He shared why adult literacy matters just as much as children's literacy, why representation in books is so powerful, and why reading is ultimately about curiosity β€” the spark that drives our future leaders, scientists, and artists.

At Literacy Partners, we know a two-generation problem calls for a two-generation solution.

Watch the video and share it with someone who needs to hear this message. πŸ’™

Still celebrating from Monday night! ✨ Our 40th Annual Evening of Readings & Gala Dinner raised a record-breaking $1.3M funding our mission to advance literacy two generations at a time.

Huge thanks to our honorees Patricia Cornwell, Sabastian Niles, Barbara Tober, and Sherrie Westin, and to our host Lesley Stahl for an unforgettable evening.

We were also moved by student Monica's story of resilienceβ€”from Ecuador to NYC to a career in healthcare, she's living proof of what literacy can unlock for herself and her family.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and thanks for believing that literacy changes everything. πŸ’›

Look at these two! πŸŽ‰ Aaron and Valentina β€” our Cristo Rey New York Project CEO interns β€” recently presented on their time with us, and we couldn't be more proud.

They helped us pack and ship thousands of books to families across the country through our Books of Their Own program.

Home libraries change lives β€” research shows they increase a child's likelihood of being on grade level in literacy and numeracy.

That's why we provide five age-appropriate books to the children of every parent in our programs, advancing literacy two generations at a time. πŸ“šβ€οΈ

Thank you, Aaron and Valentina β€” you're going places!

Last Thursday, something truly special happened at Symphony Space in New York City. ✨

Some of our students took the stage and shared original pieces they wrote themselves β€” stories of fear, of secrets kept too long, of family and food and home, of loss, of love, of what it means to live in America right now.

Their extraordinary lives, and the courage they showed β€” writing their stories down and reading them aloud to a full audience β€” made us so proud!

We hope these photos give you a glimpse of what this community is capable of.

We are so in awe of every single one of our students. Thank you for trusting us with your words β€” and for sharing them with your community! ❀️
