Space has long been framed as humanity’s next frontier.

At the Debussy Theatre during this year’s Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, PVBLIC and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs invited the world’s creative and media leaders to consider a different proposition: that space is not what lies ahead, but the invisible infrastructure already underneath everything. 🌎

Professor Brian Cox, UN Champion for Space, opened the session by establishing the scale of that reality, from satellite-enabled communications and environmental intelligence to media distribution and global connectivity, before entering into conversation with UNOOSA Director Aarti Holla-Maini, and astronaut and artist Dr. Sian Proctor.

Together, they examined why the creative industry has yet to fully reckon with the strategic implications of space technology, and what becomes possible when it does.

From brand accountability and audience intelligence to equitable access and the future of storytelling, the session made the case that the frameworks shaping the space economy are being defined now, and that the media and creative sectors have a consequential role to play in determining who gets to shape them.

Today at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, as the world's marketing and media leaders gather, PVBLIC Foundation stepped onto that same stage with a different kind of proposition. Not a product launch, but an invitation: 100 mission-driven organizations, uniting to decide how artificial intelligence will serve public-interest media, not just commercial interest.

The initiative builds on more than a decade of PVBLIC Foundation’s work at the intersection of storytelling, technology, capital, and collaboration.

Through ONE 100: Media Innovators for Good, participating organizations will receive up to $7.5 million in AI technology access grants, finally putting the same data intelligence used by the world's biggest brands into the hands of those working for the world's biggest causes.

The first 50 participants in the inaugural cohort represent a diverse cross-section of organizations working across health, nature, civic engagement, education, food systems, culture, youth development, technology access, and systems change.

The founding ecosystem includes 1% for the Planet, co-founded by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard; The B Team, co-founded by Sir Richard Branson; and The Ad Council, behind America’s longest-running PSA – alongside a diverse group of leading institutions and social enterprises. These include Amref Health Africa; Acumen; Univision Foundation; TaskForce; Amplifier; Geena Davis Institute; LA2050 and Lonely Whale among other change makers.
