✨ Alison Cook Beatty Dance is honored to make its Newport Dance Festival debut this July! ✨
Presented by Newport Contemporary Ballet, the 2026 Newport Dance Festival brings together innovative artists from across the United States and around the world under the theme of Freedom, inspired by Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms and the celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary.
ACBD will present two works:
🌟 Houston Street Hootenanny
🌟 Enlightenment — inspired by the words of Martin Luther King Jr. and set to music by Arvo Pärt. ACBD is grateful for the support of New England Foundation of the Arts for this work in CT and RI as the co. gets ready to rehearse at Lee Lund Studio of Dance and work with our guest artist friends from Newport Contemporary Ballet and elsewhere, such as ⓒⓐⓣ ⓠⓤⓘⓝⓝ !
A fun bit of history connects our performance to Newport itself. Musical excerpts featured in Houston Street Hootenanny include “Like a Rolling Stone” and “If I Had a Hammer.” Bob Dylan famously performed Like a Rolling Stone at the Newport Folk Festival on July 25, 1965, during his legendary “going electric” appearance just a few miles from where this festival takes place today. We are thrilled to share our work alongside an incredible roster of national and international artists and to be part of a festival that celebrates the power of dance to explore freedom, dignity, community, and the human experience.
While ACBD has previously performed in Rhode Island, this marks the company’s first appearance at the Newport Dance Festival. We look forward to joining Newport audiences July 15–19 for this inspiring celebration of dance and freedom.
Patrons are invited to arrive early, bring a picnic, blanket, or lawn chair, and enjoy world-class dance in a beautiful outdoor setting.

A new week means new opportunities to create, collaborate, and keep moving forward.

As we continue rehearsals for our upcoming summer performances, we are grateful for the incredible dancers, supporters, board members, donors, and audience members who make this work possible. From NYC to Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts, we are excited to share dance, storytelling, and community with you all season long.

This week, we’re hard at work preparing for the upcoming DUMBO Dance Festival Grand Finale performance of NOVA and looking ahead to our summer festival season.
