Art-as-Power

RAP welcomed our July session students with a morning of drawing at the Colosseum! Students explored both the interior and exterior of the iconic monument, focusing on capturing its immense weight, structure, and architectural form through observation.

In the afternoon, the group joined Jill for painting in the Roman Forum, including a stop at the Atrium Vestae, where they worked from the ancient sculptures of the Vestal Virgins. It was a grand introduction to Rome’s rich artistic and archaeological landscape, setting the tone for a month of creative exploration.

Students capped off the week with our art historian, Duccio, who led an engaging tour exploring the enduring rivalry between two of Rome’s greatest Baroque masters, Bernini and Borromini. The walk offered students a deeper understanding of how artistic competition helped shape the city’s extraordinary architectural and sculptural legacy.

The 2026 June Session concluded with a special Pop-Up Exhibition at Galleria Sala 1 in Rome, where students showcased a month of exploratory paintings and drawings created throughout their studies with Rome Art Program.⁠

The evening concluded with a screening of student-produced videos, offering a personal glimpse into their experiences living, learning, and creating in Rome over the past month.⁠
