SENSITIVE POST: Weight Loss, Fat Loss, Muscle Loss, Surgery, Calorie Deficit.
2024 to 2025 I had a series of procedures & surgeries to help my kidney. After a year of procedures I decided the last would be one **for me** I got a sleeve gastrectomy.
In the first photos I’m still connected to my catheter, with my kidney bypass capped, feeling heavy, bloated and miserable. I had the sleeve about 2 weeks after that photo.
The Gastric Sleeve didn't make me lose weight (as by April of this year I stayed around 10 lbs of my surgery weight). So, I started logging my food and actively performing CALORIE DEFICIT. That was what tipped the scales.
I’m working with a dietitian and we’ve set calorie and protein goals. I’m also working with a therapist to heal trauma and I’ve hired a personal trainer (starting next week).
The sleeve gastrectomy reduced my stomach capacity, reset my insulin response & rid my food nose. There’s a complex relationship between the brain and the body. **Obesity is a fat storage disease.**
I come this far with a HOLISTIC approach to health taking care of my mind, body (including endocrine system), my spirit (hedonic eating), and my emotions & psyche (trauma healing). Instead of weight loss I put the emphasis on **HEALTH GAIN.**
I workout, drink water, sleep on time, (body) Work with a therapist & group (mind) get out in nature, laugh with friends & meditate. (Spiritual healing)
I’ve lost 20 lbs of body fat
Visceral fat
And 10 lbs of muscle
My physiologist says as I become closer to “standard weight” I may lose more muscle (as 120 lbs of muscle is some ppls entire weight composition).
Anyone who thinks bariatric surgery is “cheating” or the “easy way” never did it. Anyone who has knows how difficult it is release weight & keep it off as the body is just ONE component of why a person is obese. The surgery is a tool. The rest is up to you.
My only wish is that I would have stopped trying to do it the **“hard way”* and had the surgery in my 20s! (Skin bounces back easier then).

Not much to say. Just consistency is key. I started without being able to hold myself for one second. Now I can jump into a bent arm position and lower myself. I can also do a hollow body hand and lift with my lats.
Still working on the pullup 💪🏾
