Annalee Davis is a prominent visual artist, cultural instigator, and writer from Barbados whose mixed-media practice critically confronts the legacy of post-plantation economies. Based on a working dairy farm that historically operated as a 17th-century sugarcane plantation where her Creole family resided for generations, her environment serves as both a studio and a conceptual anchor. Through drawing, installation, and video, she unearths the complex intersections of colonial history, migration, and gender dynamics in the Caribbean. Her unique aesthetic frequently juxtaposes historical plantation ledgers and legal documents with detailed drawings of indigenous flora, subverting colonial records to celebrate botanicals as sites of ancestral resistance, counter-knowledge, and ecological healing.
