“Hey Meta, what am I seeing?”

This afternoon, our very own Thomas Panek joined Hayley Fixler on FOX 5 NY to talk about an exciting partnership with Meta as they give away free Meta glasses to every blind or low vision veteran in the country.

We’re lucky to see this technology help people gain independence every day. And we’re thrilled that Meta is making it accessible for veterans across the country.

“Hey Meta, what am I looking at?”

Meet Brenna, one of our Occupational Therapists, specializing in assistive tech training. Independence is on the mind this week.

Voice-controlled smart glasses and high-definition magnifiers like the Altaro XL are helping people maintain their independence every day. Whether it’s identifying clothing, navigating to work, or finding the right item at the grocery store, AI-powered assistive tech is helping our community level the playing field.

“Hey Meta – take a tandem bike ride in Central Park and make it better.”

Lighthouse Guild riders teamed up with Achilles International pilots and hit the park wearing the new Oakley Meta Vangard smart glasses — getting real-time audio description along the way, powered by AI technology.

“You’re passing three pedestrians walking side-by-side on the left edge of the lane. You have clear space to continue straight,” Instant and detailed information coloring the experience for blind riders like never before.

The road to the future of accessible technology is being paved today. Lighthouse Guild is making sure that the low vision community has a seat at the table.
