Elections in Israel (hopefully free and fair) are set to take place by October 27, and with them comes another chance to remove Bibi Netanyahu for good and sideline his Kahanist allies. One factor that might help achieve that goal would be an electoral alliance of the four political parties – Hadash, Ta’al, Balad, Ra’am – that represent the lion’s share of the country’s Palestinian Arab minority. While leaders of the four committed to this path back in January, no agreement has yet been reached.

Joining us on Thursday, July 16, at 12:30pm Eastern Time to discuss the possible re-formation of “The Joint List”, and the greater Israeli electoral context, will be three individuals who are intimately familiar with the society and politics of Israel’s Palestinian-Arab community:

* Dr. Thair Abu Ras, Director of Palestinian Programs at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute
* Dr. Anwar Mhajne, Associate Professor of Political Science and Visiting Scholar at Harvard University
* Mohammad Darawshe (moderator), Director of Strategy at the Center for Shared Society - Givat Haviva

The rally followed an Israeli Supreme Court demand, in the wake of a Physicians for Human Rights Israel petition, that the State respond urgently to allegations that Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya has been severely beaten and is in life-threatening condition in custody.

Physicians for Human Rights-Israel also published a fact sheet about Dr. Abu Safiya (read it at https://www.phr.org.il/en/save-dr-abu-safiya/), and are calling for his "removal from the Rekafet underground security facility and an urgent assessment of his condition by an independent actor, before it is too late".
