If you missed our ARTIST TALK, here’s one of the questions and answers from conceptual artist Lulu Meng .space and curator Sophia Chizuco  on our current solo exhibition “Between Lines”

Question: Can you talk about how the prints came about? What inspired you to use the circular objects from the installation and turn them into a print?

LuLu: I would thank you [Sophia] for your suggestion because I was carving the surface, and then I was thinking of drawing...Sophia did a studio visit and mentioned that it would be really nice at one point to have white on white. In a mirror, you can see yourself; it's always like reversed. But
making a print is also like what is the real thing. This is the surface, but when you see the prints, it's not really the same size because it's reversed. Thinking about this idea, reflection, projection, and then making an imprint, then this impression, elaborating this idea of an impression when you see a surface, and you're making a print, a lot of times that print is not perfectly catch[ing] what every detail is on the original surface. Each time when you make a print, there is a select curation of each print

Sophia: Because their [LuLu] character is white [the color]. For this show, I knew the space really well, so when people come inside, it's a pull...I wanted people to see the wall first, and then they will see what is going on inside and then they will see this is white on white. This is rice paper, so it is very delicate, and I wanted to give the audience to feel something going on inside and come into the piece to see the connection. It would be nice, so I needed something here. I'm glad the prints came out perfectly.
