Hillula Alert 10 Nissan - Chief Rabbi Shalom Messas Zatzal
Talmid of Rabbi Yitzhak Sabag, Dayan and Rosh Yeshiva in Meknes and Morocco's Chief Rabbi Yehoshua Berdugo, appointed Chief Rabbi and President of the Rabbinical Courts of Casablanca at the young age of 36, eventually becoming the Chief Rabbi of the Kingdom of the Kingdom of Morocco. In 1978, then Israeli Chief Rabbi and Rishon LeTzion Rabenu Ovadia Yosef A"H asked Rabbi Messas to come to the holy city of Jerusalem to become its Sephardic Chief Rabbi and President of its Rabbinical Courts. When he departed for Israel, Rabbi Messas was escorted to the airport by Morocco's King Hassan II himself, who requested that the Rabbi bless him one last time before his departure. Rabbi Messas served as Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem for almost 26 years until his passing in 5763. He had many students, wrote thousands of responsa, and was a tremendous Tzadik, Hassid and Baal Anava.
