July is Chronic Disease Month, an important time to recognize the widespread impact of chronic conditions on individuals, families, and communities.

According to the New York State Department of Health, over 40% of New York adults have been diagnosed with a chronic disease, such as heart disease, cancer, asthma, or diabetes. Health looks different for everyone, and having the right support makes all the difference.

Chronic conditions impact every part of daily life, from physical and emotional health to social well-being. Seeking support, whether by reaching out to health programs or building steady self-care routines, is an important step to take control of your health.

What is Medical Cannabis? 🌱

Continuing our Cannabis Equity Defined series, medical cannabis is the approved use, consumption, or home cultivation of cannabis plants and products to ease symptoms of qualifying health conditions.

To get started, talk to a healthcare provider to see if medical cannabis is right for you. Under the NYS program, providers can approve patients for any condition they deem suitable, including chronic pain, mental health conditions, inflammatory bowel disease, cancer, autism, epilepsy, and more.

Once certified, you will receive a registry ID that you can use immediately with a government photo ID to buy products at a licensed medical dispensary.

Visit cannabis.ny.gov/patients to learn more about the NYS Office of Cannabis Management’s Medical Cannabis Program.
