NYC keeps showing the rest of the country what it looks like to actually support parents.
Free childcare seats. Subsidized 3-K expansion. And now, a first-of-its-kind “Parents’ Night Out” pilot program: free babysitting at rec centers across all five boroughs, so parents can get a few hours to themselves.
This is what happens when a city treats childcare like infrastructure, not a luxury.
Other cities: take notes. 👀

Let’s settle this: all moms are working moms.
Caring for your kids full-time? Work. Running a business from your kitchen table? Work. Clocking in to a job outside the home? Also work. Doing some combination of all three? You’re doing three jobs.
Here’s what this debate is really about: the fear that a mom earning money somehow threatens her role at home, or her partner’s role as a provider. Call it what it is: the fear of being seen as a “bad mom” for wanting — or needing — more.
This discourse seems like it’s about labels, but it’s actually reflection of how little our culture values care work, and just how much pressure moms feel no matter what they choose.
However you’re showing up for your family today: we see you, and we’ve got your back.
