Lower East Side CommUnity Concerns

If you know, then you know about this remarkable old school recreation center. It provided vital services to many immigrants and marginalized neighborhoods. As a safe space, it offered affordable amenities, sports programming, & a free pool to various commUnities. Although situated in downtown Manhattan, the center catered to diverse neighborhoods, including the Bronx, Upper Manhattan, & all the way down to the Lower East Side. Notably, the pool boasts a stunning Keith Haring mural, & the film KIDS was shot on location. Regrettably, the center has been closed since the pandemic, & demolition plans are underway.
