If to love your fellowmen more than self is goodness, Thomas Paine was good. If to be in advance of your time—to be a pioneer in the direction of right—is greatness, Thomas Paine was great. If to avow your principles and discharge your duty in the presence of death is heroic, Thomas Paine was a hero.

See a Thomas Paine reenactor character in spirited and lengthy imaginary debate with Teddy Roosevelt, Cleopatra and Saint Thomas Aquinas. Steve Allen moderates the debate on the first ever episode of "Meeting Of Minds", a television series which aired on PBS from 1977 to 1981. Paine appears somewhere around the 26 minute mark and dominates the conversation from there. This portrays Paine very positively although is not 100% accurate.
