The House has cleared several key amendments for consideration in the FY2027 National Defense Authorization Act that would strengthen support for American seafood producers and increase transparency in military seafood purchasing.
Among the measures moving forward:
👍 Prohibiting the Department of Defense from purchasing seafood originating from or processed in China.
🦐 Requiring quarterly audits of compliance with the Berry Amendment's Buy American food procurement requirements.
📊 Increasing transparency by reporting military purchases of domestic versus imported seafood.
These amendments represent another important step toward ensuring America's military supports American fishermen.
