Meet Mr. Bongo. 🎶🐾

Mr. Bongo is a 5-year-old Yorkie who arrived looking like he was wearing an entire second dog. His coat was so severely matted that the only humane option was to shave him down. Thankfully, we were able to save the fur on his legs, so now he's rocking the most fabulous little furry chaps you've ever seen. Honestly... he's pulling them off.

Underneath all that neglected hair was an absolute gem.

Mr. Bongo is the definition of a Velcro dog. He wants to be wherever you are, gives the sweetest hugs, and looks at you like you're the best thing that's ever happened to him. If you've ever wanted a tiny shadow with four legs, congratulations—we found him.

The only thing left on his to-do list is to lose a couple of unnecessary... accessories. ✂️🥜 Once he's neutered, he'll be ready to head home. He is heartworm positive and the $300 adoption fee will cover the heartworm treatment, neutering and anything else he needs!

And if your kids are about to leave for college, or the house suddenly feels a little too quiet, Mr. Bongo might be exactly what your heart needs. He won't replace them (and he probably won't eat all your groceries), but he will happily fill your lap, follow you from room to room, and remind you every single day that you're loved.

Come meet the little man with the fancy chaps. We have a feeling he's going to steal someone's heart very, very quickly. Apply at www.zeusrescues.org. ❤️ Thanks! Michelle

🚨 Calling All Kitten Tamers! 🚨

Y'all... this one was a first.

On Friday, some tourists walked into Zeus' Place carrying a tiny kitten. They told us they'd found it "in a tombstone."

Naturally, I had questions.

Turns out they meant an above-ground tomb in a local cemetery. Even more concerning? There was another kitten still inside that they couldn't catch.

I immediately called my partner in cat trapping escapades, David, because while I'm generally not afraid of the dead people in New Orleans cemeteries... the living people can sometimes be a different story, and backup seemed like a good idea.

When David and I got there, it became pretty obvious these kittens didn't crawl into that tomb by themselves. Someone had tucked a little bowl of water inside with them, but they really didn't have a way to get out safely. After carefully removing part of the brick façade, putting on bite gloves, and saying a silent prayer that neither the living nor the dead objected, we were able to safely rescue the second kitten. We replaced every brick exactly as we found it and reunited the siblings.

They were skinny, overheated, dehydrated, dirty, freaked out but generally healthy. Now they're safe at my house.

The black-and-white kitten has already decided humans aren't so bad. The second little gremlin... well... let's just say she's still convinced we're part of an elaborate conspiracy.

They're at that magic age where a couple of weeks of patient handling can completely change the course of their lives. Unfortunately, I just don't have the time these babies deserve right now. Oh, and my asscats said a loud and unanimous NO to them being here.

So I'm looking for an experienced kitten tamer—someone willing to spend a couple of weeks holding them, loving them, bribing them with Churu, and teaching them that people are safe... and that no one will ever try to bury them alive again.

If you can help foster these two little cemetery babies, please apply at www.zeusrescues.org/foster. If you're already an approved foster, email [email protected].

Let's make sure the rest of their story is a whole lot happier than the beginning. Thanks! Michelle

☀️ HOT DOG SUMMER IS HERE. ☀️

And no... we don't mean the kind with mustard.

Our canine residents have spent enough summer vacations watching everyone else leave for theirs. They're ready to cash in on a staycation that includes:
✔️ One couch
✔️ Unlimited belly rubs
✔️ Someone who says, "Who's a good dog?" at least 37 times a day
✔️ A refrigerator they can stare at dramatically every time it opens

Thanks to the incredibly talented Leslie, our adoptable dogs recently had a full-on glamour shoot. They understood the assignment. Some smiled. Some posed. Some attempted to eat the camera. We love them all equally.

To make things even sweeter, ALL adoption fees are HALF OFF through August!

For just $150, your new roommate comes fully loaded with:
🐾 Age-appropriate vaccines
🐾 Spay/neuter
🐾 Deworming
🐾 Lifetime microchip registration
🐾 A starter bag of Hill's Science Diet food
🐾 And the undying appreciation of every member of Team Zeus, because every adoption opens a kennel for the next animal who needs us.

So skip the souvenir T-shirt this summer. Bring home someone who will act like you've returned from war every single time you take the trash out.

Check out our available dogs and apply at www.zeusrescues.org.

Your air conditioner is already running. It might as well be appreciated by a rescue dog. 🐶❤️

📸 Huge thanks to Leslie for making our kennel crew look like the cover models they truly believe they are. Thanks! Michelle
