Our Italian Table

On our Substack today! One of my favorite foods from our trip to Naples ๐ฎ๐น We went in search of pizza, ragรน, and sfogliatelle (all delivered in spades ๐)โฆ but what stole my heart was something completely unexpected: glossy chocolate taralli dipped in a sugar glaze.
Discovered at , they were heaven on a tray โ slightly sweet, nutty, and utterly irresistible. I loved them so much I tried recreating them at home (recipe linked in bio ๐).
Sometimes the sweetest memories arenโt the grand sights but the little surprises โ like a humble chocolate tarallo on a hot Neapolitan morning.

Let the Neapolitan recipes begin! ๐ up firstโฆpasta alla genovese ๐๐๐
This has quickly become a favorite โฆlots of onions and meat cooked low and slow for hours until the onions simply melt into a delicious sauce that coats the pasta. ๐
In some restaurants where we tried this in Napoli, the onions were the star of the sauce while at others, the meat took center stage. In this version from Joey, the two are in perfect balance โฆ a silky heavenly combination that coats every morsel. ๐๐๐

When we randomly picked the place to stay in Napoli, we had no idea it would be a few blocks from the street where our grandmother was born and mere steps from the church where she was baptized. ๐
The church, SantโAnna di Palazzo, was open this evening so we stopped in and spoke with the priest. We had the book number of her baptism record from a letter we received years ago while researching our Italian citizenship. The priest immediately sent someone to fetch her baptism record. ๐ Itโs number 13 on the pageโฆ.her full name was Maria Sofia Amalia Francesca Egotalmo born 26 ottobre 1895; baptized 28 ottobre 1895 ๐
