Lin Zhong, Joseph C. Tsai Professor of Computer Science, and his team of Yale Engineering researchers earned the Best Paper Award Runner-Up distinction at the 2026 ACM MobiSys conference in Cambridge, UK.

The paper, “TimelyLLM: Time-sensitive LLM Serving System for Physical-I/O Limited Agents” explores how a new large language model (LLM) could reduce waiting times and increase ex*****on efficiency among robots and voice assistants.

Congratulations to the entire research team, including postdoctoral associate Neiwen Ling, Ph.D. candidate Guojun Chen, and Prof. Anurag Khandelwal for beating out more than 300 papers to earn this recognition!

Congratulations to Yale Engineering Ph.D. students Breanna van Loenen, D**gjin Seo, and Jason D**g, named Yale Planetary Solutions Doctoral Fellows for their interdisciplinary research on climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem collapse.

Van Loenen (Chemical & Environmental Engineering) studies community exposure to volatile organic compounds from oil and gas operations. Seo (Applied Physics) develops computational methods for modeling complex physical systems where experiments are costly or limited. D**g (Chemical & Environmental Engineering) investigates how organic molecules degrade over time, informing the design of more stable materials for grid-scale flow batteries.

As YPS Fellows, the three will receive an annual stipend top-up and a research budget over two years, along with training in systems thinking, communications, and cross-disciplinary collaboration – joining a selective, university-wide cohort of scholars working across disciplines to advance planetary solutions.
