As Chairman of the Senate Corrections and Public Safety Committee, I recently held a hearing on the Department of Corrections’ work-release program and its role in successful reentry.

We heard valuable testimony from the Department, along with respected voices including Dan O’Connell, John Reynolds of the ACLU, and Rachelle Wilson of The MSIN Foundation.

Work-release programs remain one of the most effective pathways for helping individuals return to their communities as productive citizens.

After hearing the testimony, it is clear that improvements are needed to strengthen the program and maximize its impact.

I remain committed to advancing thoughtful reforms that support rehabilitation, strengthen communities, and enhance public safety.
