Happy Father’s Day, Delaware!

Dads, granddads, and father figures make a difference every day through their love and guidance. Today, and everyday, we hope you feel as appreciated as you are. Thank you for all you do for your families and our communities.

June is Pride Month, and Delaware has earned the right to celebrate it with particular pride.

Our state's LGBTQ+ history runs deep. The Gay and Le***an Alliance of Delaware was established in the 1980s. Delaware's first LGBTQ+ community center opened on Market Street in Wilmington in 1986. Delawareans kept pushing through the AIDS crisis and through laws designed to push back. In 1997, Delaware held its first Pride Festival in Rodney Square, and that same year, Governor Tom Carper signed legislation strengthening hate crime penalties.

Delaware legalized same-sex marriage in 2013, with Senator Karen Peterson and Vikki Bandy becoming the first couple married under that law. And in 2024, Delawareans elected Sarah McBride to Congress, making her the first transgender person ever elected to the United States House of Representatives.

This progress did not happen on its own. It happened because Delawareans organized, advocated, and voted. Delaware Democrats are proud to have been part of that work, and we are committed to protecting and advancing it, especially now, as federal leadership moves in the opposite direction.

Happy Pride Month. Celebrate with us all month long as we honor the joy and resilience of Pride. 🏳️‍🌈

Since our nation's founding, more than 1.3 million American service members have died in war. Memorial Day is the day we honor those who gave their lives in service to this country.

Many veterans ask that we not say "Happy Memorial Day." For those who served, this day can mean revisiting the loss of friends and comrades who never came home. So this weekend, as you spend time with family and friends, take a moment to reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Check in on the veterans in your life. Offer support if they need it, and space if they want it. If you know a veteran who is struggling, help is available through the 988 Crisis Line.

Honoring the fallen means more than ceremonies once a year. It means supporting healthcare, combating homelessness, protecting veterans and military families, and defending the democratic rights so many Americans died to protect.

It also means demanding that we never send Americans into war unless every other option has been exhausted. Every name on every memorial wall represents a profound sacrifice. Those decisions must never be made casually, politically, or dishonestly.

To truly honor those who gave what Lincoln called "the last full measure of devotion," we must hold our leaders to a standard worthy of that sacrifice.
Our fallen heroes deserve that much. So do the living who may be called to serve next.
