Great news for our girl athletes! The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that states can limit participation in women’s sports to biological females only. The decision specifically upheld laws from Idaho and West Virginia, determining that biological sex-based restrictions do not violate the Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause or Title IX.

The ruling reaffirms it is time for House majority Democrats to stop playing games and run a bill that would ensure fairness in women’s sports in Pennsylvania once and for all. House Bills 158 and 1849, along with Senate Bill 9, have been shuffled from committee to committee over the last year as Democrat leaders have worked to avoid a vote on the issue. The bills are currently in the House Judiciary Committee and should be called up immediately for consideration.

Polls indicate 80% of people, regardless of political party, support women’s sports being for biological women only. Athletic competitions give women the opportunity to demonstrate their strength and skill, while also providing opportunities for recognition ranging from accolades to college scholarships. We owe it to our female athletes to ensure these rights and opportunities are protected.

With utility bills continuing to strain family budgets, I was proud to support legislation to eliminate a nearly 6% tax on electricity.

House Bill 2224 would represent the largest tax cut in the history of the Commonwealth, saving Pennsylvania families $1.7 billion.

The Republican caucus had leading on affordability measures based in tax cuts that can immediately slash the bills paid by Pennsylvanians and put more money in the pockets of our working families. In addition to eliminating the Gross Receipts Tax on utility bills, we are also advocating for a six-month suspension of the tax on cell phone services and the gas tax, as well as a temporary reduction in the state’s Personal Income Tax. Additional sales tax holidays have been proposed on an array of items, from baby supplies and sports equipment to gardening supplies and tools.

Please watch my comments to see why I am in full support of this measure.

House Bill 2224 passed the House and is pending consideration in the Senate.

It was a fun afternoon in Pulaski Township at the River Valley Community Resource Center where they had a 250th anniversary celebration for America and recognized all lawmakers in the county.

The Lawrence County brass band played at the event which also provided great food and raffles all benefiting the community center. Joseph Goodge promoted the event and also mentioned to me that they are wanting to start a library in the community. Many thanks to the All-American Celebration committee for the beautiful afternoon.

A small group of people can do amazing things!
