It’s ONE WEEK before election day! Time to get those ballots in. 🗳️ Just the contested races, no discussion, for the sake of brevity.

Lots of great comments on the original post if you wanna hear what folks have to say. Feel free to leave opinions here - so long as they are respectful. (It’s ok to disagree! We need to get better at it in fact!)

Sake sets (or liquid of voice) by local potter

This is Micayla Grace Sortland - now and then. We shared a tiny apartment on Spring St in downtown Nevada City back in the day. I worked late hours at Cafe Mekka and she woke at dawn to pull a double waiting tables at South Pine Cafe. She is now running for a seat on Nevada City’s city council. After leaving (like many of us do to spread our wings), she returned to town packed with credentials and education and a love for this town and what she can help provide for its residents. She will be getting our vote for many reasons:

1️⃣ Experience ( go to her page and read about what she brings to the table, it’s impressive)

2️⃣ Her political/social leanings - she lives her life with integrity and devotes her energy to advocating on behalf of those less fortunate.

3️⃣ She would be a woman sitting in a male dominated position representing a town where the average voter is a woman.

4️⃣ The trust and knowing that comes from growing up alongside her, witnessing her gracious, steadfast and consistent personality over time and living in this town with her, knowing she holds the important parts as sacred.

There are 2 seats open and 3 candidates running. Micayla Sortland and Adam Kline (the sitting mayor) will be getting our endorsements. We are big fans of the positive and mutually supportive campaigns they are each running. Politics doesn’t have to be ugly and degrading and it speaks volumes when you see these two support and build up each other as worthy opponents. May they both win.
