“How about another Story from an Old Man”
By Gary L. Crawford

Silas sat on a weathered bench beneath an ancient oak tree, his 82-year-old hands steady on his cane. He often said he was only "seventy-seven years old," because his first five years didn't count—he had been a "walking dead man" until the Spirit breathed life into him at age five.
A group of younger men from the village sat at his feet, arguing over which church had the "correct" interpretation of a difficult verse. Silas let out a soft, rattling laugh that silenced them.
"You speak of truth like it's a butterfly you can catch and pin to a board," Silas said, his eyes bright with a light that didn't belong to his aging face. "But the Holy Spirit didn't teach me formulas. He taught me a Relationship."
He leaned forward, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "I see so many traveling the road today who are starving in the midst of a feast. They perish because they have a 'poor relationship' with the Father. They treat Him like a distant landlord they only talk to when the roof leaks, rather than the very breath in their lungs."
One of the young men frowned. "But Silas, our preacher says—"
"I’ve heard the 'false preaching,'" Silas interrupted gently. "I’ve heard the men who stand in high pulpits and offer you a 'life hack' or a 'blessing' if you just follow their three easy steps.

That is not the Gospel; that is a business transaction. They give you a map but never show you the King. They teach you to 'do things your way'—to use God to get what you want, rather than letting God have what He wants: you."
He tapped his chest. "To be born again is to die to 'my way.' It is to realize that being born condemned means we have no 'way' of our own that leads to life. When I was five, the Spirit told me: 'Silas, stop trying to build a ladder to Heaven. I have already come down to you.'"
He looked at the young men, his expression solemn. "Many Christians are 'perishing' not because they don't go to church, but because they are still trying to enter the Kingdom while holding onto their own understanding. They are like men trying to swim while clutching a bag of lead. They prefer the safety of a denomination or a clever sermon over the terrifying, beautiful intimacy of the Holy Spirit's voice."
"How do we change?" the youngest asked.
"You must become a child again," Silas smiled. "Stop trying to be 'right' and start trying to be His. The 'time to die' is every morning when you wake up—die to your own plans, your own pride, and your own 'truth.' Only then will you find that the One Way isn't a road at all. It’s a Person."
As the sun set, Silas stood up. He walked toward his house, not like a man burdened by 82 years, but like a boy following his Father home for dinner.

✍️ Story Behind the Song — I Just Talked to Jesus
By Gary L. Crawford
There was a moment in my life when I told God:“I will never do that sin again.”
But Satan whispered a lie:
“Who do you think you are? What you do won’t hurt anybody.Nobody will die because of your sin.”
And I agreed with him.I picked the sin back up.
The very moment I did…Satan hit me with a new lie:
“God will never give you another song.He will never speak to you again.”
Shame came fast. But right in that darkness was the real reason I had turned from that sin in the first place…
I wasn’t trying to look righteous.I wasn’t protecting my reputation.I was terrified of losing the power of prayer…
…because my daughter had cancerand was facing death.
I needed heaven to hear me.I needed Jesus to hold her.I needed mercy.
And God showed mercy on both of us.
When I finally confessed, when I ran back into His arms —Jesus forgave me.He strengthened me.He spoke to me again.
This song was born from that moment —a fallen manlifted by graceand restored by the voice of Jesus.
