Friends of Rookery Bay

Rookery Bay recently welcomed the STARability Foundation’s Trailblazer Academy for a hands-on adventure through the Environmental Learning Center. The visit became even more special when several participants recognized their tour guide, Rookery Bay volunteer CJ Deal, from Southwest Florida Special Olympics bowling!

From gently touching sea stars and sea urchins to trying on a sea turtle shell and looking through the jaws of a bull shark, the Trailblazers explored the wildlife that makes Rookery Bay’s estuary so unique.

Rookery Bay is grateful for the partnership with STARability and for opportunities to connect people of all abilities with the beauty and wonder of Southwest Florida’s coastal environment.

As you head out to enjoy the beach this 4th of July weekend, please remember that it’s nesting season for sea turtles and shorebirds! 🐢🐣
