Across the country, so-called “Teen Takeover” events have led to property damage, fights, traffic disruptions, injuries and arrests. If you’re thinking about attending one, think twice. If you are thinking about organizing one, don’t.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office uses technology, social media monitoring, community tips, and other investigative tools to identify planned gatherings before they happen. When necessary, deputies will take action to prevent illegal activity and keep our community safe. Today, Florida Attorney General Uthmeier announced he is having statewide prosecutors develop a plan to investigate and prosecute those responsible for takeover events. CCSO will arrest and the State of Florida will prosecute!
What may seem like a harmless night out can quickly result in criminal charges. Depending on your actions, you could face charges such as:
• Criminal Mischief
• Battery
• Obstructing Traffic
• Disorderly Conduct
• Trespassing
• Resisting an Officer
• Fleeing and eluding
• Inciting a riot
• Aggravated rioting
An arrest doesn’t just affect your weekend. It will impact school activities, scholarships, employment opportunities, and your future.
We encourage parents to have a conversation with their teens TONIGHT about making responsible choices, understanding the consequences of their actions and avoiding situations that can quickly spiral out of control.
This summer, make memories, not mugshots.
