Today wardens from Maine Dept. of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife along with TPEPA volunteers placed three Headway Speed Only markers on the north end of Trickey Pond. Headway speed is the slowest speed at which it is still possible to maintain steering control of the watercraft. It’s also the speed that protects Maine wildlife, keeps swimmers safe, and prevents erosion.

A TPEPA member shared this photo this weekend. Trickey Pond has two baby loon chicks! That’s two years in a row with two chicks. While their nest was on the northeasterly island, now that they are swimming they are most frequently spotted on the south end of the lake. Be aware while boating, they are difficult to spot.
