Why This Yogi Learned AI

For many people, the rapid expansion of data centers raises real and valid concerns. AI systems require energy, storage, and infrastructure, and the scale of growth can feel overwhelming. Yet stepping away from learning AI does not reduce its presence in the world. What does make a difference is how consciously we choose to participate.

In yoga philosophy, the principle of Brahmacharya invites us to practice wise use of energy. Traditionally, this teaching encourages moderation, intentionality, and the avoidance of excess. When applied to modern technology, Brahmacharya becomes a powerful guide: use what is needed, learn what is essential, and avoid unnecessary consumption.

This is one reason many practitioners are choosing to study AI rather than ignore it. Understanding the foundations of AI allows us to work more efficiently, reduce repeated trial-and-error prompts, and avoid the constant generation of unnecessary outputs that consume processing power and storage. Knowledge leads to precision, and precision reduces waste.

Learning AI also allows professionals and small businesses to remain relevant without overproducing content or relying on inefficient workflows. When we understand how to ask clear questions, structure workflows, and use tools thoughtfully, fewer resources are required to achieve meaningful results. This is technological mindfulness in action.

For yogis, the path forward is not rejection or blind adoption. The path is conscious engagement. By studying AI with the lens of Brahmacharya, we learn to balance participation with responsibility. We develop the skill to create only what is useful, to store only what is meaningful, and to design systems that support people rather than overwhelm them.

This is why this yogi chose to learn AI. Not to generate more noise, but to use technology with awareness, restraint, and purpose.

Call-to-Action: Consider skipping the image generation trends. They use up a tremendous amount of energy. I did not know this initially, so just do the best you can until you know better...then do better. Perhaps invest in some good lighting and get back to photographs.
