Parents caring for their children’s medical or mental health needs often dedicate all their energy to coordinating schedules around these requirements. However, it is crucial for parents to also focus on their own needs and maintain a balanced nervous system.
For parents who feel overwhelmed by negative thoughts and emotions related to managing their child’s medical complications or navigating challenging life events, the EMD (Eye Movement Desensitization) and ASSYST (Acute Stress Syndrome Stabilization) approaches can offer quick relief. These methods help the nervous system return to a balanced state.
Both therapy approaches can be conducted online, and I often use them as adjunct therapy options. EMD and ASSYST follow specific protocols derived from EMDR, focusing on directly addressing the source of a distressing event.
