Today the Nantucket School District held their annual Special Olympics School Day games with student athletes participating in the various games.

The Nantucket Police Department had the privilege and honor to assist these student athletes during their school day games. Members of the Nantucket Police Department and Nantucket Fire Department awarded participants with medals at the awards ceremony.

Fun was had by all and all of the athlete’s should be very proud of themselves!

This week is National Police Week and Friday, May 15, 2026 is National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the entire Police Week pays tribute to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives or were permanently disabled in the line of duty. It also recognizes the men and women of local, state and federal Law Enforcement agencies who serve and protect the public on a daily basis.

This police week, Sergeant Jackie Hollis, Sergeant Robert Hollis and Officer Kelly Mayette participated in the Police Unity Tour, a four-day bicycle ride. This is the 30th anniversary ride of the police unity tour which began in 1997 with only 18 riders and now consists of nearly 3,000 riders and 8 chapters nationwide.

Sgt. J. Hollis, Sgt. R. Hollis and Officer Mayette rode alongside officers of Burlington PD, Lexington PD and an Officer from Australia, who are part of Chapter 10. They rode about 300 miles beginning in New Jersey and ending their ride in Washington D.C at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Through fundraising and physical training, their efforts raise awareness of fallen officers in the line of duty as well as raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Museum and Memorial.

Way to go Sgt J. Hollis, Sgt R. Hollis and Officer Mayette and to all the officers who participated in the Police Unity Tour!
