And with that our roster is full! It’s been crazy few years of restructuring, retirements, promotions, and hiring but all probationary firefighters are now full-fledged members of the Nacogdoches Fire Department.

Today we celebrated Colton Gutermuth getting off probation and earning his official NFD black helmet. Firefighter Gutermuth was surrounded by family and his crew, but it was an honor to see his helmet presented to him by his dad and our most senior member Captain Steven Gutermuth, a 29 year veteran of the department.

Firefighter Gutermuth worked hard by starting as a cadet, going through both the fire academy and EMT school and then the remainder of his probationary period spending time at all our stations. Although he’s been around the department his entire life, it’s definitely eye opening when you’re the one on the inside going to the calls. We’re so proud of Colton and all the newest members of the department. We can’t wait to see how we continue to grow and improve as time goes on!

As a fire department we're all about saving lives, and sometimes being part of a friendly competition, so we hope as many people as possible support us and the community as a whole during this year's Battle of the Badges. Starting next week from June 29 to July 5 if you go donate blood make sure to mention you're doing this for "Fire" to help fire departments across the region beat other first responder agencies in who can gather the most support.

Why is this important? Blood donations save lives but during the summer donations typically go down while needs rise due to increased accidents. Your support during this week can help members of our community in need and give fire departments bragging rights until next year's battle.
