✨Not sponsored. Just the honest math.✨

✨The Chase Sapphire Reserve has a $795 annual fee. That number scares off most people — and it probably should. Premium travel cards only make sense if you actually travel enough to use the benefits.

✨How the real annual fee actually breaks down:
* $300 automatic travel credit (flights, hotels, parking, rideshares, tolls) — immediately reduces the fee to $495
* $120 in Lyft credits ($10/month) if you use rideshares — reduces it to $375
* 4x points on flights and hotels booked directly
* 2x on dining
* Lounge access — Priority Pass and Sapphire Lounges
* Primary rental car coverage, trip delay reimbursement, lost luggage protection
* TSA PreCheck / Global Entry credit every four years

✨The signup bonus math:
Current offer: 150,000 Ultimate Rewards points after $6,000 in three months. Those points can be worth $2,000–$4,000+ in travel depending on how you redeem them. That’s not nothing.

✨The honest catch — the coupon book problem:
Modern premium cards increasingly justify their fees through a pile of statement credits that only matter if you actually use them. Apple Music, Peloton, StubHub, Sapphire dining experiences. If you’re buying things you wouldn’t otherwise buy just to use the credits — you’re not saving money.
We only count the credits we’d use naturally. Everything else is noise.

✨Why Chase Ultimate Rewards specifically:
Flexibility. Points transfer to multiple airline and hotel partners instead of locking you into one brand. Hyatt, United, Southwest, Marriott — you go wherever the best redemption value is at the time.

✨The FI mindset on credit cards:
No financial product deserves permanent loyalty. The best option today may not be the best option tomorrow. We evaluate this annually. If the math stops working — we move on.
Full breakdown on the blog. Link in bio.

✨Do you use a travel rewards card — or does the annual fee stop you before you run the math?

✨Save this if you’re evaluating travel cards for a slow travel or early retirement lifestyle. Send it to someone who dismissed this card at the fee number. 💰

🏡George Carlin said it best: a house is just a place to keep your stuff.
(He had other words for stuff, but you get the idea.)

🏡We lived in our home for 20 years. That’s two decades of books, birthday gifts, holidays, hobbies that didn’t stick, and random purchases that might come in handy someday. When we decided to slow travel, we had to confront a scary truth: something had to be done with all of it.

🏡The downsizing methods we tried:
* Marie Kondo — does it bring you joy? Most of Eric’s stuff just brings confusion to him. What if he goes back to a job he last held 15 years ago?
* The one-year rule — if you haven’t used it in a year, it goes
* Eric’s Storage Bin Challenge — everyone gets one bin, then you swap and decide what’s valuable in each other’s piles. Removes emotional attachment. The family disagreed. Strongly.
* The fire test — if the house burned down, would you pay to replace this?
* The darker version — if you passed away, would the person cleaning out your house find any value in this?

🏡What we actually did:
We kept the house for our first year on the road — partly as a home base, partly as a very expensive storage unit. Prepping it for our son to rent it forced the hard decisions. Lots of trips to Half Price Books and the donation center.

🏡Funny thing — after nine months away, we came back and found half our stuff untouched. Things we’d been storing ‘just in case’ that never came up once. That’s the real data on stuff.

🏡What’s your method for letting go of stuff? Because we are still figuring this out.

🏡Save this. Send it to someone drowning in stuff who needs permission to let it go. 🌺
