What’s the odd thing you seem to dig the most? 🤔

For me… it’s spoons! 🥄😅

It doesn’t seem to matter where I hunt—a park, an old farmhouse, a curb strip, or a forgotten homesite—somehow a spoon always finds its way into my pouch.

Most are old silver-plated spoons with the plating long worn away, so they usually end up in the scrap bucket. But every now and then I dig one that’s too interesting to part with.

I love finding monogrammed spoons because they once belonged to a real person. There’s something special about holding an everyday item that was part of someone’s life many decades ago.

I’ve also recovered spoons stamped with the names of long-gone hotels and restaurants. Those are some of my favorites because they preserve a little piece of local history that has otherwise disappeared.

And when I’m really lucky… a solid sterling silver spoon comes out of the ground! Those are rare for me and always become permanent keepers.

Bucketlister x 3 Day for Mrs. Ripcode! 🤯

Mrs. Ripcode was the driving force behind getting us permission to detect a mid-to-late 1800s farmhouse, and what an incredible permission it turned out to be!

While talking with the owner, we learned the property has been in the same family since 1854. Hearing that immediately had our hearts racing, knowing the history that could be waiting beneath our feet.

As the hunt unfolded, I think I was even more excited than Mrs. Ripcode as each find came out of the ground!

Her amazing finds included:
-1941 Washington Quarter — First silver Washington quarter!
-1900 Barber Dime — First Barber dime!
-1907 Indian Head Penny - So green! 💚
-1934 Wheat Penny
-Ornate suspender clip — Another first!

Three bucket-list firsts in a single hunt… that’s a day neither of us will ever forget!

Spending the day uncovering history with my wife and favorite detecting partner makes this hobby even more rewarding! ❤️

All finds were made with the Minelab Equinox 900 with the Coiltek 10” × 5” coil.

Who else here is a total gear nerd? 😅 If you can’t tell… I might be one!

Here’s my current “tacti-cool” metal detecting setup. I love dialing in my gear so everything has its place and is easy to reach while I’m out in the field. It makes for a smoother hunt and, let’s be honest, it just looks cool too! 😎

Great white buffalo. Great white buffalo.

In “Hot Tub Time Machine” (2010), the term "Great White Buffalo" refers to a mythical, legendary "one that got away".

I didn’t let this great white buffalo get away! I got it during the 4th of July sale from Republic Displays!
