The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Advisory (HAN 00530) regarding the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.

This advisory alerts clinicians and public health professionals to remain vigilant as the region responds to cases caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus strain. Currently, there are no FDA-licensed vaccines or targeted therapeutics specifically for this strain, making clinical awareness, thorough travel history assessments, and prompt diagnostic capabilities the critical first line of defense.

To support global preparedness and response efforts, BioFire Defense is actively increasing our production capacity for critical testing resources. The BioFire® Global Fever Special Pathogens (GF SP) Panel can detect multiple Ebola species, including Bundibugyo, helping healthcare facilities identify high-consequence pathogens quickly and accurately with results in about an hour.

We remain dedicated to working with U.S. Government partners, global public health agencies, and healthcare institutions to strengthen outbreak response efforts and preparedness activities.
