Remembering a Pillar of Gates County: A Tribute to Ms. Pat

​It is with heavy hearts that our community mourns the passing of a true pillar of Gates County, Ms. Pat. For many of us, she was much more than a librarian; she was a steadfast friend, a mentor, and a guiding light who shaped the lives of countless residents.

​For me, she was a true wealth of knowledge, and I am endlessly grateful for her uncanny ability to always help me find exactly the local history books I needed for whatever rabbit hole I decided to go down.

One thing I know for sure is that she loved the children of this county immensely. She lit up to see a child excited to be at the library, even when their excitement caused them to break the inside voice rule.

​To celebrate her life and provide a space for us to share our appreciation, a memorial Facebook group has been created: A Tribute to Pat Familar: Beloved Librarian and Friend. I have been asked to pass it along to you all.

​Everyone, please join the group to post your memories, condolences, and stories. This collection of sentiments will be a meaningful gift for her family, showing them just how much Ms. Pat meant to our community and how deeply she was loved.
