Is it just a coil spring or a torsion spring?
Taking a look at the garage door mechanism, you'll see it has many parts. Most doors have torsion springs and tracks, but some have more moving parts.
You'll find your torsion springs near the top of your closed garage door. A garage door spring is tightly wound to generate torque and balance the weight.
It makes it easy to open and close the door manually. Torsion springs release torque so the rollers can move across the tracks to lift the garage door.
The majority of residential garage doors come with two coil springs. In case one breaks, the other one keeps everything in place. So your garage door doesn't crash down and crush your car.
When both springs are in good shape, your garage door will work.
If you are looking for springs, we have them here at

MACC Door Systems Garage door warehouse and supply providing doors openers and parts to Tennessee and bordering states.
