June 13th is Missing Mutts Awareness Day and June is National Microchip Month.
Bad weather scaring them off, jumping the fence, a leash breaking mid-walk, or a bolt out of a door opened too wide. There are a lot of ways you can lose your beloved pet. But what is the best chance of getting them back? Microchipping. Since June is National Microchip month, what better time to make sure your pet has this permanent means of identification and any escaped or lost pet doesn’t stay missing? Saturday, June 13th this year is Missing Mutts Awareness Day. A day to be educated on what to do when you lose your dog or when you find a lost or stray dog. Lost Pet flyers, contacting your local veterinary office and shelter, and posting on Facebook can help find your pet faster, but a microchip is the best way to bring your pet home and prevent having a permanently missing mutt. A microchip is a small RFID chip, the size of a large grain of rice, implanted under the skin of your pet and is only activated by a microchip scanner. The chip holds an ID number that – when registered correctly – connects your pet to your contact information. It is important to know that microchips are not GPS trackers, they only have the ID number that connects to your information. Microchips are the best way for veterinary offices and shelters to reunite lost or stolen pets with their families, as they are a permanent identification that can’t be lost or altered. Already this year we’ve reunited lost pets with their owners using their microchips. It’s as easy as moving the scanner over the pet and putting the number in the database. The database shows the owner’s registration information, so verify and update your contact information when things change. To give your pet the best means of permanent identification you can, and avoid having any “missing mutts,” call us to schedule an appointment and get them microchipped!

We’re now halfway through Pet Appreciation Week. We started the week with some of our staff members’ pets and stories and wanted to continue showing off and appreciating our own furry friends. Here’s more about our special pets.
Jeannie: This is my cat Ja Morant Carlson, aka Itty Bitty. She loves naps, treats and Grizzlies basketball. My dog, Honey, is a one-year-old Labrador-Weimaraner mix and loves walks and watching Paw Patrol.
Christina: Dominic is my eleven-year-old Lab mix I got when I was five years old and he was only a few weeks old. He likes to lay in bed, run, and bark at everything. Golden and Fortune are two-year-old Golden Doodles. I also got them when they were a few weeks old and I was fifteen. They’re full of energy, like to play fight, chew things up, and be in your personal space.
Kayela: Tara, my 16 year old mix breed dog was adopted from our local shelter in 2012 for my birthday. She spends most of her days sleeping as she has gotten older, but she enjoys cuddling and the occasional treat. My affectionate nickname for her is “my Old Lady”. She is really one of a kind and I am blessed to have gotten to take care of her and give her so much love.
As Pet Appreciation Week continues, we hope you enjoy taking some extra time to show your special pets some love. From all of us at Warren Animal Hospital, Happy Pet Appreciation Week!

Warren Animal Hospital wants to recognize and congratulate our 2 recent graduates! Braley graduated from MTSU earning her Bachelor of Science degree, double majoring in Animal and General Sciences. She participated in many agricultural learning events for the community such as Spring Fling and Winter village, where local children and families were able to learn about where their food comes from. She also helped run the Regional FFA Livestock Judging competition when it was hosted by the school and was a member of the professional Agricultural Sorority, Sigma Alpha. She will be moving back home to east Tennessee in July. We will really miss her and wish her the best as she begins a new chapter in her life. Braley says “Some of my fondest memories were going to the MTSU farm units, all of my animal science classes, and getting to do a genetics experiment on aging. When I go back home, I plan on volunteering at a rescue ranch, getting more equine and exotic pet experience, and then eventually applying for veterinary school.”
Darion recently graduated from high school. He has his whole life ahead of him with new experiences and adventures in store for him. He plans on attending Motlow Community College studying animal science and may later transfer to MTSU. His parents have a special message for him. “As parents, we are so proud of Darion and his continued movement towards understanding God's plan for his life. He overcame amazing odds to graduate from high school and is now focusing on attending college. Dr. Warren and all of the wonderful staff have been so kind. We know that the lessons learned over the past 2 years are ones he will never forget.”

Congratulations and best wishes to both our new graduates!
