Free To Grow Homestead

Our first time processing pigs on the homestead was a huge success! We enjoyed our two Berkshire Boys from start to finish! They were a joy to have on the homestead and it was great to move them on pasture and watch them embrace their ”pigness”. We are grateful for the help of friends and a growing community throughout this journey!

In this hands on workshop you will learn all the steps to grow and process poultry for your family! From hatch to freezer!

Participants will process their own birds alongside instructors to ensure leaving with plenty of confidence and experience!

-hatcheries and breed selection
-feed options
-shelter & infrastructure
-animal husbandry

Skills taught:
-humane slaughter
-scalding
-plucking
-eviscerating
-butchering (break-down) chicken
-packaging

We practice regenerative agriculture with an emphasis on animal husbandry. We will show you how we utilize and honor each and every part of the chicken. You will leave with a renewed appreciation for the life and sacrifice of a chicken and a strong connection to your food.

No experience is necessary! All participants will receive a packaged chicken to take home with additional chickens available for purchase the day of the workshop.

Admission is $125 per person or $200 per couple. This includes reference materials, a packaged chicken to take home and lunch served during the event.
