July is Disability Pride Month!

Each year in July, we celebrate Disability Pride Month—a time to honor the achievements, contributions, and resilience of people with disabilities while recognizing the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and equal rights for all.

Disability Pride began in 1990, the same year the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law, marking a historic milestone in the fight for disability rights. That year, Boston hosted the first Disability Pride Day. In July 2015, the first official Disability Pride Month was celebrated, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the ADA.

Today, communities across the country celebrate with parades, events, and educational opportunities that promote awareness, acceptance, and pride in disability identity. This month reminds us that disabilities are a natural part of human diversity and that every person deserves to be seen, valued, and included.
