America 250!!🇺🇸🇺🇸 Celebrating America!! On this day....July 4th, 1776!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️

July 4, 1776 — The Birth of American Independence

Two hundred and fifty years ago today, on July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress took a step that would change the course of history. Meeting in Philadelphia, the delegates formally adopted the Declaration of Independence, a document that announced to the world that the thirteen American colonies were now “free and independent States.”

Drafted by a committee of five—Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Robert Livingston—the Declaration laid out the colonies’ grievances against King George III and proclaimed a new political philosophy: that all men are created equal and that governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed.

The vote to approve the text came after days of editing and debate. Congress had already agreed on July 2 to break from Britain, but July 4 was the day they approved the final wording of the document itself.

Though most members signed it weeks later, July 4 would forever be remembered as the day a new nation was born—not with the blast of a cannon or the roar of a crowd, but with the stroke of a pen.

And that’s the way it was, July 4, 1776.
