I don’t have any new pics since last week, so this is an old one from before surgery — just wanted to give a quick update.

Finnegan is doing awesome and is set to come home tomorrow! He is acting like nothing even happened. He has many weeks of recovery from shunt surgery and I’m looking forward to spending time with him.

Fen is not recovering as easily from his shunt surgery. He is quite off balance and not eating all his meals. Fen may need to stay at the hospital longer. Neuro assures me he’s not critical, but he’s also not bouncing around. I’ll see how things look tomorrow. I’m worried, of course.

Finnegan (the ginger) is bouncing around his cage this morning like nothing happened! The boy just underwent major brain surgery and he’s ready to spring loose. He’s moving out of ICU and into the general ward. We should be on track to bring him home from the hospital on Tuesday!

Fen (the tabby) is having a little rougher time with recovery. The pain meds affected him more than Finn and he’s been extra sleepy. After dialing back the pain meds, he’s feeling a little better but I think after such a long hospitalization, it’s just going to take him more time. Fen is very wobbly, just like Timmy was. In the same way, we just have to wait and see if he regains his balance and ability to walk.

Neuro is very happy with both boys’ recovery so far overall!

Back-to-back shunt surgeries were a SUCCESS! Both boys are out of surgery with no complications or concerns!! Fen went first and is already awake and resting. Finnegan just got out of surgery and is waking up. The next 24 hours is critical and things could still go terribly wrong, so please continue to keep them in your thoughts.

TOMORROW is a GO! Shunt surgery will start early tomorrow morning with Fen, then Finnegan will go right after. It can’t come soon enough, as Fen had his 19th (and hopefully LAST) brain tap overnight. Both these boys are in for a world of difference — as we’ve previously seen with Fizz and Timmy. The surgery is expensive, but completely life-altering. Fen and Finnegan will have the opportunity to live long, happy lives just like any other cat.

Q: Does the shunt need to be replaced as they grow?
A: No! The surgeon coils extra tubing under their skin that stretches out as the kitten grows into adulthood, so it doesn’t need to be replaced as they get bigger. In fact, unless the shunt malfunctions or clogs, their original shunt can last their entire life!

If you’re able to help us cover the extraordinary cost of these surgeries, please donate at kitkatplayroom.com/donate. Thank you so much.
