Ridgeview Veterinary Practice
Lately I have had a lot questions as far as prepurchase exams in horses go. I wanted to stay somewhat general when I try to explain what a prepurchase exam is and is not. The exam is done on a certain day and time and is to evaluate the horses health and soundness status at the time of the exam. The objective of the exam is to try and find things that are abnormal and let the buyer know about these things.
The exam and findings are not about predicting the future health and soundness of the horse being evaluated. One of the biggest misconceptions about these exams are that the veterinarian passes or fails the horse. Unfortunately the terms pass and fail have been used with prepurchase exams and should be retired because the truth is that if the buyer chooses to buy the horse it passed if not it failed, but that does not mean it will necessarily fail for the next buyer( this is very dependent on what other buyers want the horse for). We know that horses are expensive but please understand that any athlete is likely going to show signs of wear and tear and so perfection is rarely found. Please consult with the veterinarian you are working with for your questions and their recommendations.
Good evening- we wanted to let our clients know that the office will be opening at 1130 am Friday morning. Thank you for your patience!
Good morning! The office will be open today, Thursday, April 9 from 9:30 to 1:30 this afternoon. Thank you for your patience.
Good morning! Just wanted to let everyone know that since we are currently into the seasonal testing time for PPID(Cushings disease) anyone wishing to do TRH stimulation tests should give us 10 days notice. Unfortunately we can't keep TRH(Thyroid releasing hormone) in stock because it's activity is very lived and we can order when we need it. Thank you for your understanding.
