If you’ve taken a class with me, or worked with me with your reactive dog, you’ve probably met Lahey.

An unassuming little black dog with a lot of heart, stellar dog-dog social skills, an intricate set of behavior complexities, and a mom who went above and beyond for this complicated girl from Day 1. Lahey has helped reactive dogs learn it isn’t so scary, taught over the top puppies to tone it down and respect their elders (including helping raise a baby Huxley!), encouraged scared puppies out of their shells, and helped spread the word of positive reinforcement during her regular dog park adventures.

Today, after a short battle with kidney disease, she had to say goodbye.

If you’ve worked with me any time over the last 5 years, you’ve felt Lahey’s influence - indirectly, or first hand. Her mom moved well past client and firmly in to the spot of a friend, even after they moved up north earlier this year.

She wasn’t easy, by any measure of the imagination, but she was so, so loved.

May Lahey’s memory inspire you to do the things your dog loves, and stop forcing the things they’ve clearly said no thank you towards. May her memory keep you curious and learning and creative. To keep a sense of humor, even if you may want to scream.

And to always look up, because there might be a squirrel eating a piece of pizza in the tree above you.

Run free and rest easy, baby girl. You will always be part of the fabric that makes up Dog Eared.
