Throwback Thursday:
Optimist Park, ca 1958, was located on Highway 181 approximately 12 miles north of Morganton. The Optimist Club of Morganton purchased 86 acres of land at Clearwater Beach from J. Edward Butler in 1952. It was a popular place to beat the summer heat. The park remained in operation until 1988. Its official name for most of the time was the Morganton Optimist Park and Clearwater Camp for Youth, Inc.
