✨What makes this salon experience different from others? I asked my Dionelis, who has been in my chair since her big chop in 2022👇🏾✨

“What makes this salon experience different from others is the connection Lean and I have built over the years.
Apart from her magical hands and the amount of healthy hair growth I currently have, we are able to decompress about our lives and build a community where we uplift one another. I have never had a connection with any other hairstylist. I think that connection is what makes my hair thrive! I also love that my daughter, who is autistic, is accepted in that space, and she, too, deserves to get a beautiful haircut.”

✨ Let’s talk about loc take down… because baby, this is not a “grab some scissors and vibes” type of situation. This is a process, a sacred unraveling and a slow return.
First things first, patience has to clock in before you do. Locs are formed through time, tension, product build-up, shedding, memories, and a whole lot of commitment. So when it’s time to release them, we’re not rushing. We’re respecting the journey on the way out just like we did on the way in.

The take down begins with deep saturation. I’m talking moisture that seeps into the core of the loc to soften years of compression. Conditioner, oils, warm water… this is where we start negotiating with the hair instead of fighting it. Dry loc take downs are for people who enjoy unnecessary suffering, we don’t live there.

Next comes the meticulous separation. Strand by strand shed hair is gently removed and knots are eased open. Sometimes we finger detangle, sometimes we comb. Other times we just sit in stillness and let the hair tell us how it wants to be handled. This is not aggressive, this is intentional.

You can expect shedding and tangles. You can expect moments where you question your life choices. This is completely normal. Remember, that hair has been held in formation for months or years. We are literally reintroducing it to freedom.

Length retention depends on how the locs were maintained, how mature they are, and how consistent moisture has been over time. Some people walk away with a full fro that makes them gasp. Others need strategic trimming and restructuring. Either way… we rebuild, not panic.

Once fully taken down, the hair requires a full reset. Clarifying. Deep conditioning. Protein balance if needed. Low manipulation styling while the strands remember how to be loose again. This is a transition phase, not the time to be playing hot potato with ten new styles in two weeks.

Loc take down is emotional, physical, and transformational. You’re not just changing a hairstyle… you are closing a chapter and opening another.

If you’re considering it, don’t DIY your destiny. Book with someone who understands both the science and the spirit of locs. Your hair will thank you later!✨
