I finally had the opportunity to visit both the National Memorial for Peace and Justice and . It was a bright, sunny afternoon, but a brisk breeze cut through the air. I took my dslr, not knowing if I would be able to capture the magnitude of this solemn memorial to the victims of lynching.

There were signs at intervals reminding visitors to be respectful of the space—no loud talking, no pets, no skateboarding…

It was beautiful and necessarily and intentionally haunting.

On August 2, my parents celebrated their 40 wedding anniversary. I made a trip to Mobile to document the special occasion. No big party, just valuable time spent with their children was all that was needed.
