Fasting Mommy

I spent last weekend in and was urged to join in the pool time fun (it was a heated pool). I put on my favorite black swimsuit and was blown away with how loose it felt on my body. I checked myself out with pride and thought, "hey I'm looking pretty good!" I'm still in that 205-209 range, but seeing the progress is SO MOTIVATING. Recently, I've been more critical of myself and often think I look puffy and bloated. This weekend I looked upon myself with kind eyes and appreciated my journey and progress. Maybe next month, my swimsuit will feel even bigger than it did last weekend. It was a solid weekend win!
I'm going to take it one day at a time and one fasting day at a time. Progress is always better than perfection!

I finally broke through a month-long plateau! I haven't been able to get under 210, until today. I finally saw that 209, and the joy filled my heart. I have been fasting at least 3 days a week, but I know the lack of sleep is a big influence on my weight. My 20 month old is not a good sleeper and wakes multiple times at night. I have thought many times, why keep going on with when is a huge factor when losing weight. Staying consistent is another huge factor of weight loss. He won't be a poor sleeper forever (fingers crossed), but the good habits I build now, will last a lifetime.
Like many others, I approach my weight loss goals in 10lb achievement blocks. My goal now is to get under 200lb. I've done it before and I can do it again!

My doctor told me I need to incorporate more fiber into my diet. After investigating easy powder fiber additives, I decided they aren’t right for me. They have shockingly high levels of lead in them. My cardiologist agreed that eating whole foods is far better than adding powder fiber to drinks and meals.
But now I’m conflicted because lots of high fiber foods are also higher in carbs. Lentils, beans, farro, pears, etc. are not things I eat a lot. I’m always trying to cut carbs to lose more weight.
What to do? Yesterday I made a delicious cumin, carrot, lentil soup. It was fantastic. I coupled it was a kale Cesar salad. Kale Cesar salad is one high fiber dish the whole family loves. The trick is to massage the kale so it becomes more tender. I really get in there too.
I am shopping with a low carb, high fiber, cost conscious mind. It sounds impossible, but we’re doing our best.
What are your favorite high fiber foods?

I went to the doctor recently for a preventative check up. The medical assistant asked for my weight, and when I provided it she was quick to say that this was her "goal weight." This was striking to me because I have been actively trying to lose weight for months and am far from my goal. I sat with this kind comment for a while and recalled 4 years ago, I had been around 255lbs for years and would have given almost anything to be where I am today. I tried EVERYTHING to lose the weight and it didn't happen until I found alternate day fasting! I'm so proud to be 40lbs lighter than I was 4 years ago, and while I still have a way to go, I have made so much progress. It's important to be kind to yourself and remember, no matter what your weight is, your current weight is someone else's goal weight! You know I dropped a little fasting knowledge with her ;) This is why I created this account, I wish I would have known about fasting earlier and how transformative it can be!
Happy Fasting All!

I'm a little baffled that over the past 2 months, I'm down 10lbs. Is it frustrating, yes, I was expecting to be down closer to 15lbs. Maybe it's age? Maybe it's sugar? Maybe it's alcohol? It looks like I need to make a shift to help ramp up weight loss again. Since my trip is so close, I think I'm going to keep practicing alternate day fasting up until I leave, and plan for a shift in April. I've also thought about going back to the gym in April (scary!). Maybe a 60 hour fast is in order as well.
Lots of things to try! Lost of options to explore!
How do you beat a plateau?

I am counting down the days until I take off on a long overdue adventure. My goal now is to stay HEALTHY. Keep my kids HEALTHY. I am so terrified of getting sick right before our big trip. To our knowledge, we have been covid-free this entire pandemic, we'd like to continue to be covid free. We also are vaxxed to the maxx. My plan to stay healthy includes:
-Alternate day fasting!
-Exercising at least 3 days a week
-Eat extra veggies and protein
-Probiotic shots
-Limit alcohol
-Sleep as much as I can (the little dude is still not sleeping)
-Mask up
I'm super hopeful that I can stay in tip top shape throughout this trip. We want to maximize our time abroad and avoid hotel quarantine.
What do you do to stay healthy before a big event?
