Severe winter storms can bring hazardous conditions such as power outages and extreme cold. Preparing in advance is the best way to reduce risks and stay safe during winter weather events.

Priority Electric wants to help inform you of the importance of using the correct steps on how to use your generators.

Please Reach out to us if you have any questions. Stay safe and warm!

Correct order for using a generator with an inlet box (step by step)

1. Turn OFF utility power at the main breaker
This is the most important step.

Flip the main breaker to OFF
This isolates your house from the grid
➡️ If you skip this, backfeeding is possible.

2. Engage the transfer switch or interlock

Transfer switch: move it from UTILITY to GENERATOR
Interlock kit: slide it so the main breaker cannot be ON
This creates a mechanical lockout so:
Utility and generator cannot be connected at the same time

3. Plug the generator into the inlet box

Use a proper generator cord (never a “suicide cord”)
Ensure:
Correct voltage (120V / 240V)
Correct amperage rating

4. Start the generator (no load)

Let it warm up for 1–2 minutes
Circuit breakers on the generator should still be OFF (if equipped)
This protects the generator from sudden load stress.

5. Turn ON generator breaker

Now power flows:
Generator → inlet box → transfer device → selected circuits
Still no connection to utility lines.

6. Energize circuits gradually

Turn on essential loads first:

• Refrigerator
• Furnace blower
• Well pump

Avoid high-draw appliances all at once
This prevents overloads and voltage drops.

When utility power returns (shutdown order)
This order matters just as much.

- Turn OFF branch circuits
- Turn OFF generator breaker
- Shut down the generator
- Unplug generator from inlet box
- Switch transfer device back to UTILITY
- Turn main breaker back ON

This prevents:

- Generator damage
- Voltage spikes
- Accidental parallel connection

This is a recent bathroom and laundry room remodel done along side Ramic Remodeling LLC.

In this project we completely relocated the laundry room from the downstairs main level floor of the house to the upper floor level.

We also redid the original layout of the upstairs bathroom along with remodeling an additional separate bathroom.

The final product of upgrades for the electrical include: Recessed lighting in the laundry room on a four way switch system. Recessed lighting in the showers of both bathrooms, bathroom exhaust fans to help eliminate moisture, and vanity lights.
