Swayze Elementary

Yesterday was officially my last day as principal of Swayze Elementary School. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Bob Webber and his leadership team for believing that I had the ability to take on the task of transforming our school from one that was underperforming in many ways into a safe loving productive environment where students could grow and thrive.

I am forever indebted to the team of loving professionals that bought into the vision and worked tirelessly to ensure that every child felt loved and supported.

To our families and community members who believed in us and trusted us with your children even when you could have chosen to take them to another school, we will forever be grateful.

The Swayze School Community is special. It is strong and resilient and will forever have a significant place in the history of Monroe.

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to make sure that Swayze closed in the manner that it started 75 years ago with passionate educators motivating students to grow and reach their highest potential.

Until very recently, I had no idea that I would be the last of a line of exceptional educators to lead the school. Once I realized that was the case, I felt a burden to highlight the leaders, teachers, and students that had come before us. I did not know until the very end that one of the alumni who sat quietly in our planning meetings each week was a talented film maker.

Thank you Mr. Marcus B. Simmons for the countless hours that you invested in documenting the history of our school and our closing events.

This uniform policy was designed to ensure that students from all 3 schools would be able to wear uniforms from their previous school. We deleted one color from each school. The deleted colors are navy(Swayze), gray(Shady Grove), and red(Robinson). Other than those colors students should be able to wear everything else that they already have.
